NICHOLAS DELBANCO is the Robert Frost Collegiate Professor of English Language and Literature at the University of Michigan, where he directs the prestigious Hopwood Awards Program. He's the author of eighteen books of fiction and non-fiction: most recently The Lost Suitcase; Reflections on The Literary Life (Columbia University Press, 2000).
